YMU Internships

Young Musicians Unite offers year-round internship opportunities for high school students! Our after-school programs provide real-world experiences that foster professional growth. Discover more about our specific internship opportunities below

 

Opportunities

  • As an administrative intern you will assist with the day-to-day operations of the office by doing tasks such as filing paperwork, preparing documents, generating reports and presentations, and organizing office supplies. You will be supporting the Executive Assistant to the CEO.

  • The YMU Studio is a free recording studio for students grade 5-12 that is open year-round. As an audio engineering intern, you would work alongside our lead Audio Engineer at the YMU Studio. You will get to help facilitate recording sessions of students and learn about music production. Prior experience about DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) is a plus.

  • As a marketing intern, you would assist with content creation and distribution across all channels: Website, Email, Social Media, and Print alongside our Marketing Director and Social Media Manager.

  • As a music access management intern, you will work alongside the Programs department in our partnership with Music Access. Learn skills in grant writing and working with non-profit organizations and navigating partnerships.

  • As an operations intern, you will work alongside our Operations Manager and COO at our office in Young Musicians Unite. You will get a valuable look behind the curtains of a large cultural non-profit organization. Work will include data entry, database management, emails, phone calls, etc.

  • As a programs intern, you will work closely alongside our Program Director, helping to facilitate music programs for underprivileged students. No musical experience is required.

  • The Miami Beach Senior High Rock Ensemble has been rocking for over 50 year. As a Rock Ensemble Intern, you would help manage the Miami Beach Rock Ensemble and gain valuable administration/planning experience.

  • As a shows intern, you will assist the Show department head in organizing live shows with our student led bands. Will get experience in equipment handling, organization, show management and facilitation. Work will require being able to lift boxes and equipment such as monitors and amps.

  • As a studio management intern, you will work alongside our YMU Studio Manager to schedule, facilitate, and coordinate various recording sessions, music videos, and projects at our free recording studio for students. Learn about copyright, split sheets, distribution, record labels, and recording studio do's and don'ts.

Limited Slots and Students are Paid via government grant. Applications are typically done in April. Final selections are made by mid-June. Program is 5 weeks in July-August, 30 hours a week.

ACADEMIC YEAR INTERNSHIPS

Academic Year Internship Dates: School Year
Grades: 11-12


Students receive class credit and a grade. 1 credit course is 5 hours a week, 2 credit course is 10 hours a week. Applications are typically April - June. Final Selections are made by mid-July.
